DB2 10.5 Blu Acceleration — Trial and Driver Downloads

In some of the DB2 lists that I participate in I see many requests for links to driver and trial download pages for DB2 10.5 LUW. Also, I see many requests for locations of manuals in PDF format. Here are the links to the download and trial downloads along with a link to the PDF manuals:

DB2 LUW 10.5 and JSON

JSON for application development is far outpacing that of XML development in the age of Big Data and Cloud Computing. DB2 LUW has very strong support for JSON and should be your database of choice for non-mainframe RDBMS solution. DB2 10.5 provides columnar processing, XML support and JSON support all in the same database and you get all the data integrity and robust recovery built into DB2 LUW. To learn more about DB2 LUW and JSON, refer to these DB2 JSON articles on Developer Works:

DB2 and TSAMP — A Perfect Match

TSAMP has been bundled with DB2 since 9.5 and is now seeing widespread implementation for HA on both Intel and Power Series. Key to implementing TSAMP is use if the command utility db2haicu. Db2haicu provides a nice interface for setting up a cluster and defining highly available resources. And, pair it with HADR and you have the best of both worlds. Refer to the following references to aid you in your quest.

DB2 10.5 BLU Acceleration, TSAMP, and HADR are one Powerful Solution

i am seeing many customers upgrading to 10.5 to not just take advantage of BLU Acceleration but also TSAMP and HADR. Many clients love using read only on the standby along with super asynchronous mode. And TSAMP, integrated with DB2, is very easy to integrate and implement using db2haicu. TSAMP provides for seamless HA. checkout the HA red book from the following URL http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/redbooks/pdfs/sg247363.pdf

DB2 BLU Acceleration, New Redbook

If you haven’t had a chance to checkout column organized tables, aka BLU Acceleration, take a look at Chapter 4 of the new DB2 10 redbook, Leveraging DB2 10 for High Performance of Your Data Warehouse at the following link: http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/redbooks/pdfs/sg248157.pdf

Happy DB2 New Year!

It has been a good year in DB2 land. DB2 10 has picked up speed and DB2 10.5 with BLU Acceleration announced. Improvements to DB2 pureScale, HADR, query performance, and continued improvements to DB2 tools and utilities make it a compelling platform and there is literally no workload that it can’t easily handle. IDUG Orlando and IOD 2013 were also very successful. Happy DB2 New Year!

DB2 Control Center Migration in 10.1, 10.5

If you are upgrading to DB2 10.1 or 10.5 and use the Control Center or task scheduler you will need to migrate to IBM Data Studio. This article contains some useful pointers on IBM Data Studio features you will want to become familiar with….

DB2 Blu Acceleration — Simplicity

Watched a good video from the lab recently on how easy it is to implement Blu Acceleration, or columnar based tables. IBM even supplies an advisor in Optim Query Tuner that will recommend what tables are candidates for Blu. Check out the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0wDQfGB55Ik
