Presenter:  Phil Gunning, Gunning Technology Solutions

First seen in DB2 v4 for z/OS in the early 90’s, table partitioning was included in and announced for Db2 LUW 9.1. DBAs need to be familiar with table partitioning to manage the historic growth in data that is occurring and will occur with the Internet of Things. The need for table partitioning is driven by the sheer size of data today, and it enables DBAs to meet business objectives through table partitioning to improve the performance and availability of data; along with the ability to roll in new partitions and roll old data out. This session will highlight how to achieve improved performance through query partition elimination and proper indexing along with achieving high availability with online utilities.
